Knee Pain and Pain in the Legs? Do not underestimate and can be fatal!

Some people must have experienced pain or tenderness in the joint area, especially in the knee. But many people still underestimate and ignore this pain. In fact, if you underestimate it for a long time, the condition can get worse which later makes the treatment or management of the disorder more difficult. Orthopedic and Traumatology specialist at Siloam Hospitals Balikpapan, dr Hedy Wahyu Ramadhani SpOT, explained that there are various causes of knee pain. These include trauma, injury, infection, and inflammatory diseases.

'' In addition, obesity or obesity can also trigger pain in the knee area. However, the most common thing is due to osteoatritis, "he said in a release statement.

Keep in mind, osteoarthritis is one of the most common types of arthritis. The sign is when the joints feel sore, stiff and swell occurs. This disease, also known as chronic degenerative disease, is commonly found in elderly patients. Because as we get older, the bones in the joints can be damaged.

A person who is in the age of aging will experience calcification which is a natural process in the body. However, calcification may occur sooner or slower. Usually, people who are over 45 years of age are more at risk of developing this disease.

In addition, there are still many people who mistake it for pain in the knee. You should find out more about the causes and symptoms. Because the pain in the knee can interfere with activities because the knee functions as a support and weight bearing for the body.

"This knee pain disorder is often confused with gout or rheumatism, but most often it is due to calcification of the joints, especially in the elderly. We must be aware of calcification, not gout or other diseases," he said.

Dr. Hedy explained that uric acid, which is an inflammatory disease, does cause pain or aches. However, this complaint rarely occurs in the knee. Gout pain usually occurs in small joints, such as the big toe.

The initial symptoms of osteoatritis are pain and aches in the knee, especially when we change body positions. The pain usually occurs when standing after sitting for a long time, going up and down stairs, or when straightening the knee. The pain will decrease at rest or when given pain medication.

However, be alert if the pain persists and does not decrease even after being given the drug. This is a sign that the calcification condition has entered a severe stage. At this stage, the joint can feel stiff, swell up, and experience limited motion of the knee joint. Worse yet, it can cause bone deformities and joint displacement at a later stage. An example is the shape of the leg like the letter O which is often experienced by parents.

Immediately do an examination when you experience joint pain or suspect symptoms of osteoatritis. Immediately to the hospital or an orthopedic and traumatologist for treatment. The chance for recovery is greater without surgery. However, the possibility of recovery also depends on the stage or level of the calcification condition.

The examination at the hospital includes X-rays of the knee to find out the stage then followed by determining the type of therapy. If it is still in its early stages, the doctor will usually provide non-operative measures. However, if needed, knee arthroscopy can also be performed.

Knee arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure. In medicine, it is called a keyhole which is usually done only 30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the patient's knee condition. This surgery is performed by placing a high-resolution camera and instruments into the knee through a small incision in the skin.

With this treatment, the doctor gets a more detailed picture of the condition inside the patient's knee through a monitor. Recovery after the procedure is also relatively fast because this operation is minimally invasive or only slightly injures the skin.

"In principle, with arthroscopy, doctors can clean the dirty fluid on the knee," he explained.

In the middle stage, apart from atroscopy, there are also actions that stimulate the repair of damaged cartilage. Then in the final stage, the patient only has a chance to recover by doing joint replacement. This is because the condition of the cartilage has been completely damaged so that the bones rub together and cause persistent pain.

"Total knee joint replacement or what is commonly called the Total Knee Replacement is a surgical procedure by replacing cartilage and knee joint pads with artificial implants. The bearing elements use polyethylene or thick rubber and the damaged bone ends are replaced with metal which has a span of 30 years. So, this can last 30 years. This action is better done at old age, for example 60 years because at that age people have less activity so that implants are more durable, "he added.

After the joint change, the patient will be rehabilitated by practicing walking with a cane for approximately 5–7 days. This is done in order to heal the postoperative wound and observe the results of the operation.

How to keep blood sugar from high or low? Blood sugar in medical terms is known as glucose. This sugar in the blood is needed because it becomes a source of energy for the body's cells. As reported by Buzzle, Sunday (4/7/2010) the average normal blood glucose level in humans is 70 mg / dl to 120 mg / dl and will usually increase after eating.
