This is the Guide to Living the New Normal During the Corona Pandemic

New Normal Activity

New normal is a change in behavior or habits to continue carrying out activities as usual but by always implementing health protocols in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. This appeal from the government recommends that we live "side by side" with the virus that has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives worldwide.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic emerged, almost everyone has experienced problems living a normal life due to restrictions that need to be made to prevent transmission of the Corona virus.

However, with these restrictions over, the government advises us to start carrying out activities as usual, of course while complying with the COVID-19 prevention protocol.

This encourages us to be more aggressive in implementing the basic preventive measures for COVID-19, such as washing hands with soap and running water or with a hand sanitizer, not touching our faces with unwashed hands, applying physical distancing, and wearing masks in every activity, especially in public place.

How to do activities during New Normal

Here are the important things you need to know to face the new normal:

1. When I have to leave the house and return to the house

The application of the new normal will make us looser to leave the house. However, considering that the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing, we must continue to apply basic preventive measures whenever and wherever we are.

In addition, do not force yourself to leave the house when you are not fit. When the needs are finished, immediately return home. Arriving at home, immediately do the following:

  • Take off your footwear before entering the house.
  • Spray disinfectant on the footwear or equipment you use.
  • Wash hands with soap and water.
  • Take off the clothes worn and immediately put them in the closed laundry.
  • Take a shower and change into clean clothes before relaxing or hanging out with family.

2. When using public transportation

If you have to travel somewhere and use public transportation, there are a few things to consider besides applying basic precautions.

To make it easier for you to keep your hands clean, always carry a hand sanitizer with you. Do not touch your face with hands that have not been cleaned. Also, make sure you bring a drinking bottle with you to stay hydrated during the trip.

The most important thing to remember while on public transportation is to reduce interactions and maintain a distance of at least 1 meter with other passengers. If this is not possible, you should not use public transportation.

3. While working in the office

The start of a new normal will allow employees to gradually return to work in the office after several months of working from home. So, to stay safe and avoid the Corona virus at work, you need to apply physical distancing in every activity in the office.

When on the move at your desk or during a meeting, make sure the distance between chairs is at least 1 meter. If there is a coworker who sits at a distance less than that, don't hesitate to reprimand and remind him to keep his distance.

Likewise at lunch. If previously you were used to eating in the canteen, in the meantime, try to always bring supplies from home so you don't have to go to a crowded place to buy food. When having lunch together at the office, keep your distance from colleagues at work.

If you are sick, ask permission not to come to work, or if possible, work from home for a while.

4. When shopping

If you have to shop for groceries, chances are you will run into lots of people. Remember, always apply physical distancing, yes.

Limit touching items in stores or in public places. After touching these items, do not touch your face or personal items, such as bags and cellphones, before washing your hands. The goal is to reduce the risk of being contaminated with the Corona virus.

In addition, try not to spend too long while shopping. Write down what items you need to buy and go straight to the cashier when you have everything.

This also applies if you and your family eat at a restaurant. When eating, of course, you have to remove the mask. So, choose a place to eat with good ventilation so that there is air exchange in the place. Remember, always keep your distance from other people, including waiters, other visitors, and cashiers.

When paying, use a non-cash payment method to prevent contamination. However, if this is not possible, be sure to wash your hands immediately after handling money or cards.

5. When shopping online or ordering food online

Since the pandemic, online shopping has become more and more in demand, because people can shop easily without having to leave the house. Through online shopping, we can buy food, drinks, or goods that we need even though almost all malls and shopping centers are closed during the PSBB.

Even so, there are a number of things that you should pay attention to, namely:

  • Avoid direct contact with couriers. If necessary, wear a mask when transacting.
  • Make an effort to pay for groceries on a non-cash basis to minimize interactions with couriers.
  • Provide a special place for the courier to place your ordered items, so you don't have to meet or come in contact with the courier when receiving the goods.
  • Unwrap the package outside and immediately throw it in the trash or spray the package with a disinfectant before bringing it inside.
  • For food, do not disinfect the package. Just open and discard the wrap, then transfer the food to a plate. Do not eat food straight from the container.
  • After opening a package of goods or food, wash your hands immediately with soap and running water.

6. When in need of health services

Instead of consulting directly with a doctor at the hospital, it is better to use a telemedicine facility. You can use the ALODOKTER application to consult a general practitioner or specialist.

You can also make a consultation appointment with a doctor at the hospital through the ALODOKTER application if you really need an examination or direct treatment from a doctor.

Consulting online through a health application is considered safer to prevent transmission of the Corona virus, especially for people with diseases that are prone to COVID-19, such as diabetes or heart disease.

If you have a baby that must undergo immunization or you are pregnant and need a pregnancy check-up, follow the immunization guidelines and pregnancy checks recommended by doctors during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even though life with the new normal has been announced by the government, it does not mean that the Corona virus has disappeared and is no longer a threat. Therefore, you still have to strengthen your endurance by paying attention to nutrition and fluid intake, and adopting a healthy lifestyle, such as adequate rest, exercising regularly, managing stress well, and not smoking.

It is important to remember, don't force yourself to leave the house if you are not feeling well, especially if you experience symptoms of COVID-19, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, runny nose, or sore throat. Immediately do self-isolation. That way, you will also protect other people from the risk of being exposed to the Corona virus.

In addition, also call the COVID-19 hotline at 119 Ext. 9 for further guidance. If you do meet the criteria, the health office can pick you up and take you directly to the nearest health service facility or referral hospital for COVID-19 to get treatment.
